Shreveport Lawyers for Stopping Credit Collections

Debt crisis and creditor harassment seem to go hand in hand. When you are behind on your financial obligations, your creditors will begin collection activities to try to collect the debt from you. They call your home, your cellphone or work, send you letters, or even call your friends and family. Many creditors threaten foreclosure, garnishment, repossession or lawsuits.

The easiest way to stop creditors is to file for bankruptcy. The Cook Law Firm, APLC, has more than 20 years of bankruptcy experience. We help all people throughout northwest Louisiana.

Stop Creditor Harassment

When you file for bankruptcy, your creditors must immediately stop any collection activities. They must not contact you. If they do continue to contact you, we can pursue court action against them, such as sanctions if the harassment is extreme.

Usually, however, your creditors know that they must abide by the law once you file bankruptcy. They must act in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and if they do not, we can take action on your behalf.

Once you take the step and choose bankruptcy, not only will you find relief from your creditors, but you will be heading toward a fresh start financially.

With Chapter 7, most of your debts will be discharged, including credit card debt and medical bills. In a Chapter 13 plan, you will make payments that are applied to your debts during a period of three to five years. After that, most remaining debt is discharged.

Our Shreveport attorneys for stopping credit collections can help you determine what option is best for you.
